Distinctive Programme Features

1. Specialised Widowhood Focus

Unlike generic grief support groups that address all forms of bereavement, Wicare exclusively serves widows, recognising that spousal loss presents unique challenges distinct from other bereavements. Our targeted support addresses widow-specific issues including identity reconstruction, single parenting transitions, financial restructuring, and navigating processes like housing transitions or settlement

and even the change in dynamics and roles between mother and child/children with the loss of the spouse and father. This specialisation enables deeper expertise and more targeted interventions than generalist programmes can provide.

2. Comprehensive Support Model

Our structured approach integrates individual counselling, group therapy and befriending services within a cohesive framework. This contrasts sharply with fragmented services where widows must navigate multiple agencies for different needs. Instead of having to manage multiple agencies, our holistic model looks after your emotional, practical and social needs all at once. We cannot emphasis the importance of having such support for the first year's grief.

While 1-1 counselling and group therapies may take up to about 3-4 months, our befriending program helps support the new widows concurrently for another 12 months. Our holistic model addresses emotional, practical, and social dimensions simultaneously.

3. Grief Support for Fatherless Children

We understand that a mother’s primary concern is always the well-being of her children, especially when navigating a shared loss. In response to feedback from our widow—who shared that their children's emotional struggles and wellbeing were their greatest source of worry—we gently expanded our services to launch a dedicated support program for fatherless children.

This expansion emerged from focus group discussions where widows identified their children's emotional struggles as their primary stressor. Our children's programme now serves more than 50 young beneficiaries through age-appropriate interventions including play therapy, art therapy and teen support groups.

4. Community Ecosystem Development

Beyond individual support, Wicare cultivates a community that transforms isolation into belonging.

  • Helping widow members find purpose and hope in life
  • Creating opportunities for learning and personal growth
  • Promoting lasting friendships
  • Empowering bereaved widows and children through a shared visual journey, reminding them that they are never alone. Our vibrant member network provides continuous mutual support, fostering deep community bonds that extend far beyond our formal programs.

5. Financial Assistance Scheme and Educational/Academic Bursary Support

Recognising the challenges that the newly bereaved widows may face in terms of financial, Wicare steps in to help mitigate and smoothen the initial months with financial support. We also award Academic Financial Support to children for them to stay on and complete their education in Polytechnic, Universities. (Institute of Higher Learnings)
